Edward Coombs Memorial Flag Football Tournament

Next Saturday, November 19th, the first annual Edward Coombs Memorial Flag Football Tournament will be held at Tenney Stadium to honor the memory of Eddie Coombs, a Marist Lacrosse player who tragically lost his life in a car accident this past summer. All of the proceeds from this tournament will be donated to the Edward Taylor Coombs Foundation that has been set up by his family.

The event is being organized by former Marist Lacrosse player and current student assistant coach RJ Discher, as a part of his senior capstone project. While he credits current Marist sophomore Mike Linehan with the idea to have a tournament in Eddie's honor, Discher has worked hard to transform what could've been a flag tournament like any other, into what is sure to be a special day for the Marist community and everyone involved. The reaction to this tournament has been tremendous with many people already making donations to the foundation, whether it is friends of the Coombs family, family members of current and former Marist lacrosse players, or people who genuinely just want to be involved.

The format of the tournament is 7 vs 7, and it is $100 a team to enter. The last day to register a team is Wednesday, November 16th. There are a number of prizes, as well as a raffle, that will include items such as an autographed football from Alabama's Head Coach Nick Saban. The event will begin promptly at 10 AM on Saturday the 19th, at Leonidoff Field at Tenney Stadium on the Marist Campus. For more information contact ECFLAGFOOTBALL@GMAIL.COM, and be sure to attend what is sure to be a very special day, not only for Marist Lacrosse, but for the entire Marist community.
